Since its inception in 2019, Island of Hope Uganda has engaged a diverse group of young leaders from across disciplines and nationalities as project participants and volunteers from Uganda, Kenya, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Thailand, Japan, Brazil, France and Belgium. In the initial 2 years of establishment, 100 local and 20 international youth were engaged in environmental programs with special focus on sustainable agricultural practices and ecosystem restoration. They participated in programs like planting and maintaining indigenous trees on 100 hectares of agricultural land within Central & South Western Uganda (Kampala, Wakiso, Mbarara, Isingiro, Ntungamo, Bushenyi, Sheema & Rwampara Districts). From 2021 to date, the organization rolled out a project (Green Leaders Project) that builds capacity and creates spaces for multidisciplinary groups of youth (18-35 years) to actively contribute to Climate Action (SDG 13).

This has facilitated cognitive learner centered sessions on Climate Action in the Universities of Makerere, Kyambogo and Uganda Christian University. Over 100 students have participated so far.

These were introduced to content from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and through physical interaction with relevant government institutions that implement the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) triggered to relate and understand climate change in the local context in Uganda.
This has inspired a multidisciplinary think tank of future climate action green leaders available for the job market in both corporate and government entities.
